Know Your Rights
YOU HAVE RIGHTS
Everyone in the United States has certain rights under the U.S. Constitution- no matter your immigration status. Knowing your rights can help protect you in everyday life and interactions with law enforcement.

RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT
You do not have to answer questions about your immigration status, where you were born, or how you entered the country.
RIGHT TO REFUSE A SEARCH
If immigrant agents or police do not have a signed warrant, you can refuse to let them enter your home or search your belongings.
RIGHT TO AN ATTORNEY
In criminal cases, you have the right to speak with a lawyer. In immigration court, you may hire a lawyer, but the government does not provide one.
RIGHT TO MEDICAL CARE
Hospitals must treat you in a medical emergency, even if you are undocumented or uninsured.
